Mill Spring · Polk County, North Carolina
A 438-acre lake on the Green River in north-central Polk County, with mini-farms, riding trails and a short drive to Tryon International.
Lake Adger sits on the Green River in north-central Polk County, between Tryon and Lake Lure. The lake covers 438 acres with more than 14 miles of shoreline. It was created in 1925 when Blue Ridge Power built Turner Shoals Dam, and Polk County bought the lake and dam in 2009 for $1.6 million.
There is a public boat ramp off Silver Creek Road, and motors are capped at 80 horsepower for pontoons and 60 for other boats.
Around the lake is a large private community with horse farms, conservation areas and private roads. Its marketing describes about 3,200 acres and more than 13 miles of equestrian trails. Horse properties here are mostly mini-farms and small estates of about 7 to 30 acres, with two to six stall barns, fenced pasture and access to the community trails, on roads like Big Level Road and Lake Adger Road. Depending on where you are, Tryon International is roughly 15 to 20 minutes away.
One thing to know: Hurricane Helene left debris in the lake, and the county scheduled dredging to begin in early 2026. We can tell you where that work stands when you look here.

Tell us the acreage, the stalls and the discipline. Some farms here change hands quietly, so the earlier we know, the better.
